The pale-green, art-deco hotel from the 1930s
sits in the quieter mid Beach area, allowing guests to get a good
night's sleep after sightseeing and partying in SoBe (that's
Miami lingo for South Beach). The beach in these parts is less of
a people watching scene than South Beach but guests can find
parking much easier. Across the street from the hotel and less
than half a block away is the boardwalk, perfect for walking,
strolling, jogging and watching people.
As with most SoBe hotels, the Ocean Spray kept its original
terrazzo floor and art-deco eyebrows, the layers of ledges above
the doorway. Renovated and re-opened in 2003, the Ocean Spray
sports a front porch lined with Philippe Starck Bubble Club patio
furniture, a lobby with potted palms, a large TV in a pale-wood
armoire, blue and tan chairs and a breakfast room with eight
Formica tables, black-straw chairs and freshly baked cookies.
Guests receive complimentary continental breakfasts and tea,
coffee and fresh fruits around the clock. The hotel does not have
a restaurant, but guests will find plenty of dining options in
the surrounding area, especially in South Beach.
Surrounded with art-deco inspired furnishings, guestrooms
include premium cable channels, white tiled bathrooms and
awe-inspiring views of the bay and ocean or city. They include
refrigerators, CD players, vessel sinks, fancy ProTerra bath
amenities, and Internet access.
Guests at the Ocean Spray include young people, groups and
families, and the occasional business travelers
